Employment Gold Card

A combined work permit, visa, and residence certificate for qualifying professionals, issued without requiring employer sponsorship and counting toward the Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC).

Processing time
Typically a few weeks to 2 months.
Typical costs
A few hundred USD in document and application costs.
Government fees
Application fee is modest; no sponsor/employer fee required.
Work and study rights

Important: APRC via the Gold Card requires 3 years of residence averaging 183+ days per year in Taiwan (not automatic -- a separate application is required within 2 years after the 3-year period ends); a Taiwan-issued doctorate offsets 2 years and a master's offsets 1 year of that requirement. Applicants with recent income of NT$6 million+ may apply after just 1 year.
